Significant savings reported from SPOS use onboard

Please proceed in FULL speed from Houston Texas USA, to Rostock Germany. These orders I have received on the 30-01-2007. After discharging the vessel was in Full ballast condition, with full fuel oil capacity.

New SPOS version (6) released

Meteo Consult is pleased to announce the successful release of version 6: SPOS on board weather and route planning software. SPOS was designed to display accurate weather forecasts on a computer screen. These standard weather forecasts with wind, waves, currents, hurricanes, ice edges, can be used for optimum route planning. With the standard file you can now also display the fronts on the computer screen.

SPOS weather planning systems for new COSCO giants

European weather forecasting company Meteo Consult has received an order for the supply of SPOS weather systems for the five largest COSCO container vessels each carrying about 9500 containers. The first installations have already taken place. The vessels are operated by Costamare who have used SPOS successfully on other vessels chartered to Maersk, MSC and Hapag.

Dockwise applies SPOS for special transports

Last year, the heavy transport vessel Blue Marlin of Dockwise was converted to become the largest open-deck vessel of its kind in the world. This was done in order to handle the transport of the largest semi-submersible Thunder Horse (see picture). Needless to say that for such a transport, accurate and reliable weather information is of the greatest importance.

Safety in heavy weather conditions

Following requests of our clients, Meteo Consult has implemented an automatic warning for heavy weather conditions in the SPOS weather application. When the forecasted weather conditions exceed predefined criteria (e.g. 6 metre waves), SPOS will warn the user and propose to print a "heavy weather checklist". This list can be modified by the masters to meet their specific requirements and may be saved with their voyage log. The checklist will enable masters to demonstrate that all measures have been taken to avoid heavy weather damage to ship and cargo.
