August 2004: Safety in heavy weather conditions

Following requests of our clients, Meteo Consult has implemented an automatic warning for heavy weather conditions in the SPOS weather application. When the forecasted weather conditions exceed predefined criteria (e.g. 6 metre waves), SPOS will warn the user and propose to print a "heavy weather checklist". This list can be modified by the masters to meet their specific requirements and may be saved with their voyage log. The checklist will enable masters to demonstrate that all measures have been taken to avoid heavy weather damage to ship and cargo.
