STAR Reefers

I have used SPOS onboard weather routing software for some time now. The program works properly and it is with great help for me especially at the North Atlantic and North Sea, where the weather often plays tricks. Weather information is received from updates which comes regularly at the time requested and is quite reliable. Many options available in this program help me very much with voyage planning in relation to weather conditions to the Owners/Charterers advantage.

STAR Reefers, leading ship Management Company in Poland is a part of the STAR Reefers Group which is one of the world’s leading reefer owners and operators and controls a fleet of 40 refrigerated vessels with a total capacity in excess of 21 million cubic feet. The SPOS weather routing system is a part of the STAR Reefers Group strategy to provide an integrated service for the global transportation needs of the global perishable products industry, with particular emphasis on delivering outstanding and cost-effective marine transportation service.

From the 1st of November 2007, STAR Reefers signed a contract with Meteo Consult for the delivery of the SPOS onboard weather routing system.

That is my first expirience with such programm on the vessel. And I can say that SPOS f'casts are the best ones I ever got. It is excellent tool for voyage planning and weather monitoring.
Software is simple to use and easy to understand even without the manual. Thanks for good service.

Hello

We have now been using SPOS for a month here on Maersk Forwarder. In my honest opinion, this is by far the best weather forecast software I have encountered. The resolution is excellent and the information output possibilities are great. Keep up the good work…

Conversely during last voyage 5306 because of advanced weather knowledge I was able to make different decisions. It was obvious as soon as we left Salvador, again on schedule, that we were going to have few if any weather problems on passage to Rotterdam. Therefore I was able to adjust speed right from the outset and again we arrived Rotterdam exactly on schedule. However on this voyage we used 87.4 metric tonnes of HFO LESS than on the previous voyage.

I am not sure what charterer is paying for bunkers at the moment but I think this represents a saving of around US$10000 which is not inconsiderable. ...

Dear Sirs,

This is to express my full satisfaction of service rendered. The vessel was equipped with SPOS system one and a half month ago and as per former Master this is one 'very nice piece of equipment'. The functionality and performance are on very high level and I can clearly confirm that the performance of the vessel is increasing. All persons onboard are very interested in the system and I personally as Master can confirm that I get very clear picture for the weather and all factors affecting the vessel. Up to now I use to believe that facsimile is one of the things which can help me very much, but my opinion has totaly changed. Bearing in mind the weather and the seasons now affecting trading area I am sure that all Masters using SPOS systems are very happy so I reccommend the system for future users.

Thanks again for the service.

Best Regards
