Ship owners

For a ship owner, a vessel is a major capital investment. This investment should bring an optimal yield, in other words: maximum revenues at minimal costs.

Revenues:
This can be either via external or internal chartering. Good results ensure repeated use of the vessel.
Vessels should perform as previously agreed with the charterer.

For example:

  • SPEED
The performance speed should be as stated in the charter party and ETA reports should be accurate for further planning of the logistical chain. SPOS provides daily updated performance speed estimates.
  • FUEL
Fuel efficient vessels are popular! A vessel can improve fuel efficiency by optimising its weather routing. In the reference and news sections, examples of fuel saving are reported by masters.

A satisfied customer is the best guarantee for a solid and profitable relationship.

Costs:
On the costside, we can first look at insurance premiums and repair time for heavy weather damage. Less HW damage may result in lower premiums. Also during repair time, no revenues are made. And finally, there is the cost of the excess amount when the ship is damaged. Another cost for unreliable vessel performances are speed claims that create a lot of bureaucratic work in the office. It is an uncertain factor in the budget when claims are awarded and penalties must be paid. Further it will not improve the relation with charterers.
