In a cooperation with our partner Amarcon, Meteo Consult has developed a seakeeping plug-in for SPOS.

The Amarcon Octopus system that calculates ship motions and accelerations is a well established system, mainly used on containerships and heavy transport vessels. Germanische Lloyd have included the Octopus system in their product portfolio (called Shipboard Routing Assistance, SRA).

The full Octopus system can be linked to SPOS, but now there also is a light version of Octopus that fully integrates with SPOS. This version does not have motion sensors or wave radar, but uses the SPOS forecasts directly to calculate ship motions. The vessel configuration can be defined through one of the 100 standard hull forms supplied with this seakeeping module that can be tuned to your specific vessel or by a tailor-made model of the vessel.
   In SPOS, an extra screen will appear called seakeeping. Here the user can define vessel loading conditions and motion threshold values. In the SPOS chart, areas can be displayed where motions are expected to exceed the threshold values. In the route optimisation, the motions are also calculated and the route optimisation will automatically avoid areas where maximum motions will be exceeded.

The seakeeping option extends the wide range of possibilities already present in SPOS. It is easy to install and configure and automatically integrates with the SPOS software. The new seakeeping module is offered at a fixed annual fee.
